Ayeyawady Fishery Products Gain Domestic and Foreign Markets

The fishery products of Ayeyawady Division sush as fish. Shrimp, crab and eel are sufficient not only for local consumption but also transport to Yangon Division and other countries including China, Singapore and Japan.

 In Pathein, 5/6 buying centres are openned all the year round to buy fish and Shrimp and each centre buy and transport 5000/7000 visses every month even in summer. In May and June of early monsoon period, the monthly transportation rises up to 12000/15000 visses while in the peak season of July, August and September it rises to 20000-21000 visses.

 Currently, the marine fish and shrimp from Pyin Kha Yaing, Set Seik, Thet Kha Maung, De Du Kone, Phonedawpye villages enter into Pathein Market. The marine Shrimps from Chaungtha, Sima, Gyaiklatt, Makyisin villages are expected to enter into the market in late August and September.

 The exportable shrimp costs 9300 Kyats per 50 grams, 11200 Kyats per 65 grams, 21200 Kyats per 100 grams and 26850 Kyats per 100 grams respectively and are exported through Yangon.

 In Ayeyawady Division fresh water and marine fish and shrimp were produced 622.8 million visses in 2006-2007, 908.4 million visses in 2007-2008 and 821.7 million visses in 2008-2009 respectively, according to Division Fishery Department.
